The shape of this tour is a loop that starts and ends with Marrakech and takes in four imperial cities — Marrakech, Fes, Meknes and Rabat — plus the Erg Chebbi dunes, Ait Ben Haddou, the Todra Gorge, Chefchaouen and Casablanca. Guided city days in Marrakech and Fes are included; the long legs are the drive to Merzouga and the drive from Merzouga to Fes.
How it compares with the other lengths
If nine days feels tight, our 10-day grand tour gives Chefchaouen two nights and the desert two nights instead of one each, which is the single biggest quality difference on a long route. Our 7-day loop covers the desert and the imperial cities in a shorter frame. Practical notes before you book
Three worth knowing. The Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca admits non-Muslim visitors to the interior on guided tours only, at set times, and that ticket is not included — tell us if seeing the inside matters and we will try to time the stop around a tour slot. The desert night is cold outside summer: January lows at Merzouga average around 3.5 °C. And the camel trek into the dunes takes about an hour each way, with a 4×4 alternative if anyone would rather not ride.
