Which three valleys this day trip from Marrakech covers?
The three are Asni, Ouirgane and Ourika, and the reason to do them in one day is that they are three completely different kinds of Atlas valley, on two different roads out of Marrakech.
Asni is the first, about an hour from the city: a broad agricultural valley where the road to Imlil and Mount Toubkal branches off, with a weekly country market that is worth planning around if your dates allow. Ouirgane lies further south-west on the Tizi n’Test road, roughly 65 kilometres from Marrakech and at about 1,000 metres, inside Toubkal National Park — a quieter, greener valley on the Oued Nfis. Ourika is east of both, the river valley with the terraced gardens, the villages built into the hillsides and the waterfall path at Setti Fatma.
Agricultural, then olive-and-water, then river-and-garden. That contrast is the point of the day, and it is why this tour shows you more variety than any single-valley trip.
Ouirgane: the salt, the lake and the olive groves.
Ouirgane is the valley most visitors have never heard of, and it is the reason this tour is worth taking. The village sits above the Yacoub el Mansour reservoir, held back by a dam on the Oued Nfis, and the water level changes noticeably with the season — wide and blue in spring, drawn back to red mud flats by late summer.
Around it are olive and walnut groves, juniper on the slopes and the deep red earth that gives the whole valley its colour. In the hills nearby are traditional salt workings, still worked by hand, a working local industry rather than a demonstration put on for visitors, and one of the few places in Morocco where you can watch it being done.
The whole area lies inside Toubkal National Park, so there is no development to speak of: olive terraces, a reservoir, a few villages, and the High Atlas behind.
What the day is really about
Landscape and people rather than monuments. There is nothing to queue for and no ticket to buy. You stop where the view is worth it, you visit a Berber village and see how the terraces and irrigation channels work, you drink mint tea in a family home, and you eat a homemade Moroccan lunch in a mountain village with the peaks in front of you.
You climb from about 470 metres in Marrakech to around 1,000 at Ouirgane, so expect it to be cooler, bring a layer in any season. The snow you will see is on the summits above the valleys rather than on the road; Toubkal itself, at 4,167 metres, holds it well into spring.
Is a 3 valleys day trip from Marrakech better than one valley?
An honest trade-off. This tour covers more ground than any other Atlas day trip we run, which means more driving and less time standing still. If you would rather go deep than wide, the Imlil day trip takes you to one valley at the foot of Toubkal and lets you walk in it, and the Ourika Valley trip is the shortest drive and the easiest day with children.

Note on the 2023 earthquake.
Two of the three valleys on this route were hit hard on 8 September 2023, when a magnitude 6.8 earthquake struck Al Haouz province with its epicentre near Ighil, about 73 kilometres south-west of Marrakech. In Asni, roughly nine out of ten houses were destroyed. Ouirgane lost homes and lives too. The Ourika valley, further east, came off comparatively lightly.
You will see the evidence as you drive: new block-and-concrete houses standing next to older earth-built ones, some villages rebuilt from scratch, and in places work still going on. Official figures put more than 54,000 homes completed across the affected provinces by March 2026, with a few thousand more under construction, and the authorities said in 2025 that over 90 per cent of the destroyed buildings in Al Haouz had been rebuilt. Progress has been uneven, though: in the more isolated villages near the epicentre some families are still in temporary housing three years on.
We mention it because travellers ask, and because a page about Berber mountain villages that said nothing would be pretending. The practical position is straightforward: the roads are open and the villages are working. And mountain tourism is a significant part of what these valleys live on — what a visitor spends on tea, on lunch and on a guide stays in the valley. That is the honest case for coming.
