This tour is the second version. You spend a full day inside the old city with a local guide from Marrakech, moving on foot through the parts that reward a slow look &mdash; and skipping the parts that are mostly shops with a view of other shops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What the day covers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We start at the monuments while the light is still soft and the crowds are thin: <strong>Bahia Palace<\/strong>, built in the late nineteenth century for the grand vizier Ba Ahmed, with its painted cedar ceilings and its courtyard of orange trees; the <strong>Saadian Tombs<\/strong>, sealed up for two centuries and only rediscovered in 1917; and <strong>Ben Youssef Madrasa<\/strong>, the Quranic school whose central courtyard is the single most photographed interior in the city. We pass the <strong>Koutoubia<\/strong>, whose minaret is the reference point you will use to find your way for the rest of your stay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then the <strong>souks<\/strong>. This is where a guide earns their fee. The souks are organised by trade rather than by map &mdash; dyers in one lane, metalworkers in another, slippers somewhere else entirely &mdash; and knowing that turns a maze into a sequence. You will see how babouches are stitched and how lanterns are pierced, and you will learn what things cost before anyone quotes you a price.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We finish in a garden, because the medina is loud and you will want to sit down. Depending on the day and what you prefer, that is either <strong>Le Jardin Secret<\/strong> inside the medina walls or the <strong>Majorelle Garden<\/strong> just outside them, with its cobalt-blue pavilion and its bamboo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How the day actually runs<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is a private tour, so the pace is yours. Some people want all four monuments; others would rather see two properly and spend longer in the souks. Tell us at the start and we rebuild the order on the spot. Jemaa el-Fna is a loop we can add in the late afternoon, when the food stalls are being set up and the square changes character completely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Most of the day is spent walking on uneven ground, so comfortable shoes matter more than anything else you bring.
